Transparency Systems
Bullet Resistant Glazings (BRG)
Electrothermal Ice Protection
Flexible Structures and Flotation Systems
GKN Aerospace Transparency Systems designs, develops, tests and manufactures a
wide range of cockpit transparencies and associated systems to meet the
requirements of today's modern aircraft.
Products range from monolithic windows to advance lightweight composite
windshields and canopies and utilise unique forming and laminating processes
for close thickness tolerance and high optical quality.
Applications include Eurofighter and Gripen. GKN Aerospace Transparency Systems
is a world leader in producing thin film coatings, including:
-
Electrical de-icing and de-misting
-
Low observability (RF screening)
-
Solar / ultraviolet filters
-
Transparent erosion protection
-
Transparent scratch resistant coatings
GKN Aerospace Transparency Systems has been in
the forefront of the specialised Bullet Resistant Glass market
for over 20 years, its products have a worldwide reputation for
dependability and quality. Products can be manufactured in flat
or curved configuration to suit most automotive vehicle applications.
Technical enhancements available including heating, sun-shade
banding, tinting, custom dot matrix paint band, solar control
and anti-spall protective inner layer.
The electrothermal ice protection system comprises a sprayed metal matrix
element encapsulated by polymer composite materials, which may be attached or
embedded within the aircraft surface requiring ice protection. The system has
applications on flight control surfaces, engine and equipment inlets,
helicopter blades and propeller spinners and is in operation on the EH 101
helicopter and the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey.
GKN Aerospace Special Products designs, manufactures and qualifies a wide range
of flexible structures and associated systems for a host of applications.
Fuel bladders are produced for civil and military platforms including aircraft,
helicopters, missiles and UAVs, with further capabilities in the design and
manufacture of range extender or auxiliary fuel tanks. Fully integrated
"turnkey" fuel systems for fighting vehicles, comprising flexible and
rotationally moulded tanks and associated equipment and pipework, are produced
by GKN Aerospace Special Products.
An extensive range of rubber fabrications and mouldings for the aerospae and
defence industries is produced, these include "wet floors" or sea trays used to
reduce corrosion in helicopter floors, and flexible canopies on airport
boarding ramps.
GKN Aerospace Special Products designs, manufactures and installs emergency
flotation systems for both civil and military helicopters. This systems
technology has also been applied to other products such as the automated
inflatable recovery systems for training torpedos.
